About you

Let's start with you

Four short screens for most teachers. You can stop and come back at any point.

Include your country code if you are overseas.

Where are you applying from?

This decides whether you need a visa, and which one.

Are you registered with the VIT?

Every teacher in a Victorian school needs registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching. If you already have it, we can skip most of what follows.

Your qualifications

These are the things the VIT looks at. Answer as accurately as you can — if a number is borderline we will talk it through with you rather than rule you out.

If you studied in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, USA, Canada or Ireland you will not need an English test.

All of it, not just the teaching degree.

In years.

Sometimes called your internship or practicum. An estimate is fine for now.

Paid classroom teaching, after qualifying.

English language assessment

The VIT asks for IELTS Academic — Band 8 in Listening and Speaking, Band 7 in Reading and Writing.

You may not need it. If you completed your teaching degree in person in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the USA, Canada or Ireland, you are exempt from the IELTS requirement. The exemption applies to in-person study only — a degree completed online or by distance does not qualify, even from those countries.
How was your teaching degree delivered?

Answer honestly — if it was partly online we can tell you where you stand before VIT does.

That is fine — plenty of teachers apply before sitting it. We will talk you through booking a test and what to aim for.

Your documents

Only what your answers actually require. If you do not have one to hand, email yourself a link and come back.
